Hello Dear Readers, and welcome to my first blog post. (Hmmm…I sort of sound like Danny DeVito’s Hollywood gossip reporter character in L.A. Confidential…well, that is one of my favorite movies, and I do love Hollywood gossip, so let’s just go with it.)
I must admit that I’m not yet comfortable with blog posts—I’m one of those odd types (I think they're called authors) who are much better at writing from the perspective of imaginary people—but I really do want to connect with all of you who will hopefully read my upcoming novel, Other Words for Love, due to be released from Random House on January 11, 2011. (Hope you don’t mind my shameless self-promotion). It’s a “sophisticated YA” novel, which means that it’ll be a good fit for not only teens but adults, too.
As you or may or may not know, publishing a novel is a long and arduous process, but I’ve finally reached the fun part. My book cover was recently finalized (see that lovely thing to the left?) and I couldn’t be happier with it. The delicately fragile mouth, the glamorous but gritty NYC skyline…it completely captures the essence of the story.
I know I’m bragging about how much I love my cover (Is that rude and tasteless? Is it like bragging about your kids? A book definitely can be equated to a baby, so maybe I should shut up now) but for an author, seeing his/her cover makes all the countless hours typing away on a keyboard (not to mention everything else involved in getting a novel published) very, very worth it.
Well, as I said, I’m new to this, Dear Readers, so please forgive my brevity. I’ll be back again soon…and thanks for checking in.
