By now, it's pretty well-known that Other Words for Love is set during the 1980s. Why the 1980s? I answered this question in detail during an interview with Jami of the YA Addict blog. If you’d like to take a look, you can find the interview here: http://tinyurl.com/4z4cbfg.
So in keeping with the 1980s theme, I thought I’d write a few blog posts about some of my favorite things from that decade...the things with which the characters in my novel live...you know, pop culture stuff like movies, TV, music, clothes...although I probably won’t get into the hairstyles. The hair was sort of big back then, right?
But flat irons didn’t exist. People did what they could with a blow dryer and a tube of gel. Don’t judge.
Today’s installment of “favorites from the 80s” is a TV show called Moonlighting, which stars Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd. Moonlighting was what I’d call a weekly romantic comedy.
Here’s an official description:
"The series revolved around cases investigated by the Blue Moon Detective Agency and its two partners, Madeline "Maddie" Hayes (Shepherd) and David Addison (Willis).
The show, with a mix of mystery, sharp dialogue and sexual tension between its two leads introduced Bruce Willis to the world.”
Indeed it did, and Bruce was a real cutie as David Addison. It was a great show with a very alluring theme song. You can catch the opening credits in the video below...and if you've never seen Moonlighting, it's worth checking out on DVD!
